The Bedridden Princess is a Hero: Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter 1
The Beginning

St. Clairemont Village, Tokyo, Japan
April 20, 2997

“I’m going now, Sonata!” Sana shouted to get her twin sister’s attention who is sitting at her bed beside the window on her room. She was staring blankly at the blue sky outside her room through the window again, Sana thought. “Is there something you want me to buy on my way back?” She pitied her sister so much, making her chest sting.
Minako Sanako, 15 years old, a 3rd year Junior Highschool student at St.Catherene Junior High Academy. She is the 2nd child of Minako residence. She is a very nice, beautiful and energetic girl. She loves her younger twin sister so much though there were times she envies her a lot for getting everyone’s attention.
“Then would you mind getting me the new volume of “Creative Life” by Haname Aiyuu,” she answered to her older sister who is standing in front of their house, now she is looking at her older sister. “I also want to eat milk pudding and cream puffs!” She demanded with a smile.
“Okay I’ll buy them for you on my way back!” Sana answered with an energetic voice while running on her way to school. She stopped after a few meters away from their house before looking back to see her sister again. She then waved at her with a big smile on her face.
“Take care on your way there.” Sonata whispered to the wind before her sister fades away as the young girl took a turn at the corner of the street. For Sonata this day is just one of her usual day. She can’t go to school like Sana because of her chronic yet unknown illness.
Minako Sonata, 15 yeas old, the younger twin of Sanako. Because of her illness she became bedridden and mostly stayed at home. Her body was currently fine except the fact that she can no longer walk since her illness started to attack her body.
It all started when she was 5 years old when her family went on a vacation in her grandmother’s place in a province in Hokkaido. It was a day her family can never forget, the day they’ve found out about Sonata’s illness.

While playing with her sister and brother, Sonata suddenly fell into the stairs. She was carried over to the hospital because she hit her head straight to the floor which became a big mystery to them especially to her mom who is a doctor. As we all know when a normal human fell or tripped, we usually use our hands or arms when supporting our body from falling yet on Sonata’s case she doesn’t have any bruises on her hands and arms which mean she didn’t use them or she weren’t able to use them at that time. The doctor then told them about Sonata inheriting an illness called Mische. An illness that doesn’t have a cure yet and information about it are still limited at that time. The specialist then told them that her body will start losing its ability to perform the things she normally does like standing and walking on her own. And sooner or later her ability to speak, move, see, smell, hear and feel will all most likely be gone someday and it’ll cause her death. Up until now the only thing the technology can give to her was medicines that can slower her death. Until the medicine that can cure her illness is discovered she has to bear the reality that she’ll vanish in this world soon. But with the help of her family somehow she was able to cope with the changes in her body putting her at ease even for a bit of time.
Sonata was once an energetic girl like her sister Sanako. She loves to read books and manga, watch dramas and anime as well as collecting gadgets. Like her twin sister, she is indeed a beauty and due to her confinement inside her room she has a very pure white skin yet a fragile body. And because she can’t go to school like a normal girl she has a home tutor that came everyday to teach her so when the time that the cure for her illness is discovered she can go back to reality without having any difficulties. That’s the kind of life she had been living for these past 10 years.

She was about to lay down again when a knock on her room door surprise her. She hurriedly sat back and waited until the door opened.
“Sonata, I came with your medicines.” Her mom said as she entered her bedridden daughter’s room holding a tray with a glass of water and a few bottle of medicines. “Do you want to eat something before drinking your medicine?”
Minako Shynne Miki, 38 years old, she is the mother of the Minako siblings. She is a very kind mother and wife. She was once a doctor in a prestigious hospital in Germany where she met her husband and the father of her children. She is half German and Japanese and was raise in Germany but she can speak Japanese fluently due to her mother’s influence. She decided to come back in Japan with her husband when Reiiki was born and continued working in a hospital there. Right now she stopped from working at the hospital to give her support to her sick daughter. She also helps in inventing a medicine to cure her sick daughter.

“No, Mom I’m not hungry yet,” she answered with a polite voice. “By the way Mom, did Rei called?”
“Yes, he called this morning but he was in a hurry so he just told me to say hi to you.” Her mom answered. “And also he sent a package for you and Sanako. He said it’ll arrive here after 3 days.”
“Really?” she asked with sparkling eyes and a big smile on her face. “If Rei called again can you say thank you for me, Mom?”
Minako Reiiki, 23 years old, a 3rd year student at Rutherford Medical University in Germany. He is the older brother of the Minako twins. He took up medicine for the sake of finding a cure for his sick sister. He is a very loving brother but due to the fact that one of her sister is in beneath of death he became biased to Sonata making Sanako drifted away from him. He isn’t just great inside; he is also indeed a hottie outside like his siblings.

“And also please tell him give me a call sometimes.” She added. Her voice was asking politely.
“Sure, I’ll tell your brother,” Her Mom said while preparing her medicine on the side table beside her table so she could easily grab and drink them. “Here’s your medicine, please drink them, ok? I’ll return to get them later,”
Her mom said before leaving her daughter alone in her room.
“Thanks, Mom,” she whispered to herself. Once again the room was filled with deafening silence. Sonata stared blankly at the blue sky outside through the window of her room again.
“I want to go out too,” She said with a low yet disappointed voice before releasing a big sighed that felt like she was holding the whole world in her two fragile hands.
She continued like that for about 5 minutes when she got tired of it and decided to drink her medicine already. She picked up the white bottle first and opened it carefully. She tapped the bottle down until 3 pieces of white small tablets went out. She put them all inside her mouth after that she took a sip of water from the cup beside. She does the same thing with the other two medicine bottles. After drinking everything she decided to lie down to take a short nap. It was only a few seconds after she lay down when she felt her consciousness slowly drifting away making her fully slipped to slumber.
